Curriculum development and assessment planning are closely intertwined processes that work together to shape effective teaching and learning. A well-constructed curriculum provides the framework for what students should learn, while assessment planning ensures that students' progress is measured accurately and meaningfully. By aligning assessments with curricular goals, educators can gauge student understanding, identify learning gaps, and make data-driven decisions to enhance instructional strategies. This synergy between curriculum and assessment ensures that both teaching and evaluation are purposeful, fostering a cohesive and targeted educational experience for students.

Curriculum is...

A set of aligned components, including clear learning targets based on state standards/competencies with assessments, engaging learning activities and research based instructional strategies organized into units. These units provide a plan for learning for all students. Simply put, curriculum is what we want our students to know and be able to do.

Assessment is...

The means by which instructional practices, both on an individual student and global institutional whole, are measured and then used in areas such as: curriculum revision, special education, informing parents, and providing post-secondary planning guidance. Assessment includes "tests" as well as other methods of evaluation to track progress and make informed decisions.
