This notice is to inform you about a breach of PowerSchool security in which Blair Oaks’ current and former student and staff data was improperly accessed as a result. The Blair Oaks School District takes the privacy and security of its employees’ and students’ personal information seriously, and we have tirelessly worked directly with PowerSchool to understand and address this issue.
PowerSchool requests affected districts point families and staff to the following public resource page regarding the incident: https://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident. This page provides the cybersecurity incident details, their subsequent response, ongoing and next steps, as well as service provisions. Accordingly, PowerSchool is offering complimentary identity protection services including, if applicable, credit monitoring services, for involved students and educators, regardless of whether an individual’s Social Security Number was exfiltrated.
We have confirmed that PowerSchool, in conjunction with Experian, will be digitally alerting each account breached on behalf of schools in the near future. However, many account emails may have either never been attached to a record or may have since expired. For this reason, we determined it was important to reach out to the community as a whole to notify any current or former staff or student family of this event so they may actively monitor the situation through PowerSchool’s informational page as well as receive protection and monitoring services.
We sincerely regret any concern this incident may cause you. Please know that we are communicating directly with PowerSchool and have worked judiciously both internally, including removal of all social security numbers in our data, as well as with outside agencies to assure the security of school data. Please monitor the PowerSchool resource page for further developments and reach out to Amanda Yoder at (573) 635-6864 if you have any questions.
